Descendants & Circle Jerks Presale Code 2024

The Exclusive Presale Code for Descendants & Circle Jerks 2024 Tour

The Circle Jerks, hailing from Hermosa Beach near Los Angeles, emerged in the late 1970s as a cornerstone band of the hardcore punk movement. Their sound blended the rebellious spirit (confrontational attitude) of the Sex Pistols with the energetic and physical aspects (elements) of Southern California’s skateboarding culture. Over the years, they’ve influenced countless punk rock bands like Anti-Flag, Pennywise, and Green Day.

Early Days and First Album (1979-1982):

Originally called the Bedwetters, Circle Jerks formed in 1979. The founding members were Black Flag vocalist Keith Morris, guitarist Greg Hetson, bassist Roger Rogerson, and drummer Lucky Lehrer. Their debut album, “Group Sex,” released in 1980, was a short but impactful burst of energy, featuring 14 songs in just over 15 minutes. Some of the tracks were written by Morris during his time with Black Flag.

Gaining Exposure (1981-1984):

Circle Jerks’ profile rose in 1981 with an appearance in Penelope Spheeris’ documentary “The Decline of Western Civilization,” chronicling the LA punk scene. Their second album, “Wild in the Streets,” came out in 1982 and included a mix of original songs and covers, including the title track originally by Garland Jeffreys.

Their third album, “Golden Shower of Hits,” followed in 1983. The band gained further visibility in 1984 with a cameo in Alex Cox’s film “Repo Man,” performing an acoustic version of “When the Sh*t Hits the Fan.” This period saw lineup changes, with Black Flag’s Chuck Biscuits taking over drums and Earl Liberty joining on bass.

Lineup Shifts and Continued Releases (1985-1990):

Zander Schloss and Keith Clark eventually replaced Biscuits and Liberty, and the band released two more albums: “Wonderful” (1985) and “VI” (1987). However, Circle Jerks disbanded in 1990 after Hetson left to join Bad Religion. Live recordings from their final tour were compiled into the album “Gig” (1992).

Short-Lived Reunion (1994-1999):

Circle Jerks reunited in 1994 and released “Oddities, Abnormalities and Curiosities” in 1995. The album featured a cover song with pop singer Debbie Gibson, but the reunion was brief. They performed occasionally in the late 90s, but tragedy struck in 1996 with the death of original bassist Roger Rogerson. Additionally, Morris was diagnosed with diabetes in 1999.

Sporadic Activity and Hiatus (1999-2019):

Despite these challenges, Morris, Hetson, Schloss, and drummer Kevin Fitzgerald continued sporadic touring until 2011, their final show being at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. A live concert DVD, “The Show Must Go Off!” was released in 2005. Internal conflicts led to a hiatus between 2011 and 2019.

Reunion and Recent Developments (2020-Present):

A planned 2020 reunion for the 40th anniversary of “Group Sex” was delayed due to the pandemic. The band finally reunited in 2021 with Joey Castillo joining on drums. They are currently scheduled to tour in 2022.
